22nd Esplugues Angelina Alós International Ceramic Biennial 2025-2026
The year 2025 is the year of the Biennial in Esplugues!
The ceramics competition promoted by the Esplugues de Llobregat City Council is the oldest creative ceramics competition in Catalonia and reaches its 22nd edition with the challenges of maintaining the participation levels of the previous edition, expanding its geographical scope and bringing contemporary ceramics closer to the public.
The Biennial has the sponsorship of Soler i Sauret, Nestlé Spain and Fiact Assegurances – Clínica Diagonal, as well as the institutional support of the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Jury
Isabel Fernández del Moral
Curator of the Ceramics Collection of the Barcelona Design Museum. Trained in History and a Master in Ceramics from the University of Barcelona.
She has developed her professional career in the cultural heritage and museum sector. In the field of research and dissemination she has curated exhibitions, presented lectures and written articles and catalogues related to historical ceramics, contemporary ceramics, crafts and design.
She has been a member of the scientific committee in several congresses and participated as a jury in international contemporary ceramics competitions. She participates in several research groups that study the cultural and historical heritage related to ceramics and is an active member of several associations related to the subject.
She is a member of the AIC (International Academy of Ceramics).


David Places i Balsalobre
Experienced professional in the development, growth and exploration of crafts, arts, design and local cultures, he is currently responsible for Internationalization and Cultural Promotion of the Crafts area of the Consortium of Commerce, Crafts and Fashion of Catalonia.
In his professional work, he leads the development and implementation of a powerful cultural program to highlight the synergies between craftsmanship, design and contemporary art.
He has curated nearly 200 exhibitions and events around the world, and has imported several international craft shows to Catalonia.
He is a member of the board of directors of the ECA (European Craft Alliance), collaborates in several international institutions in the craft sector, and has been present at national and international congresses on contemporary crafts.
Rosa Cortiella
Ceramist and sculptor. Graduate in Fine Arts, trained in ceramics and sculpture and master craftsman.
Artist with a long and recognized professional career. She has participated in more than fifty individual and collective exhibitions, and her artistic pieces are part of numerous national and international collections. She combines her creative work with teaching at Elisava Faculty of Design and Engineering of Barcelona and the Asimètric workshop school. Committed to dissemination and dissemination, she has participated in congresses, round tables or masterclasses, and has been a jury in several competitions and awards. She received the 2nd prize in the ninth edition of the Biennial of Ceramics of Esplugues de Llobregat, among many others throughout her career.
She is a member of the AIC (International Academy of Ceramics).

In Esplugues de Llobregat, meeting on May 13, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. in La Masoveria of the Can Tinturé Museum, Ms. Isabel Fernández del Moral, Ms. Rosa Cortiella Campabadal and Mr. David Places Balsalobre, members of the Jury of the twenty-second edition of the Esplugues Angelina Alós Ceramics Biennial, according to designation approved by mayoral decree number 2025/1371.

Rules and registrations
RULES AND CALL 2025
The regulatory bases for the concession of this competition were approved by the Local Government Board of the Esplugues City Council on March 9, 2018 and the call for the current edition on February 10, 2025.
1. PARTICIPATION
Ceramicists from any country in the world will be able to participate, individually or collectively.
The rules and conditions of this competition are understood to be accepted by contestants solely by participating in it.
Any circumstances not provided for in these rules will be resolved by the Biennial organization.
2. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PRESENTATION OF WORKS
Each participant may present a maximum of three newly created works.
Each work may consist of one or more pieces, which will be presented together under the same title.
The works submitted must be original and unpublished, made with ceramic materials. Works of an industrial nature or from other competitions will not be accepted.
In no case may they exceed 2 linear meters in their largest dimension, nor 1 cubic meter in total volume.
The pieces submitted to the competition must be able to be exhibited in the corresponding rooms and may never be replaced by still or moving images.
3. APPLICATIONS AND DOCUMENTATION
Registration applications must be completed online on the Esplugues Museums website.
The registration application will be accompanied by the curriculum vitae of the artist or artists, and must include their personal photograph.
Each application must be accompanied by a maximum of 3 digital photographs of each of the works submitted to the competition. The photographs must have been taken on a neutral background, in JPG format, with good resolution, and with a maximum of 4 MB. The name of each photograph must coincide with the title of each work, numbered in order.
All documentation accompanying the registrations will remain the property of the Esplugues Town Council.
4. REGISTRATION DEADLINE
The application deadline will end on May 4, 2025.
5. COMMUNICATIONS WITH PARTICIPANTS
All communications and notifications to participants will be made through the email address provided by the participant, in the event of individual communications.
In the event that communications must be made to all participants, they will be made on the website of the Esplugues Museums.
6. SELECTION OF WORKS
From among the entries submitted, the Jury that is appointed will choose those admitted to the competition based on the documentation submitted. Its decision will be final, and the participants will be notified through the list of those selected during the second half of May 2025 on the website of the Esplugues museums.
7. DELIVERY OF SELECTED WORKS
The works accepted for the competition must be delivered to the Can Tinturé Museum, from June 9 to 16, 2025, during the museum’s opening hours; no piece will be accepted outside this period.
(Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm).
The works must be packaged appropriately and resistantly, so that they can withstand the corresponding transport. The Esplugues City Council is not responsible for any breakage or damage that may occur as a result of transport and delivery. Broken works will be excluded from the competition.
The outside of the packaging must state:
“22ND BIENNIAL OF CERAMICS BY ESPLUGUES ANGELINA ALÓS”.
Postal details: C. de l’Església, 36, 08950 Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona
(Spain), the photograph of the work with the title and the assigned registration number.
All expenses arising from the sending and delivery of the accepted works, such as transport, customs, taxes or any other type, will be borne by the participants.
The Esplugues de Llobregat City Council will not incur any financial expenses, actions or administrative procedures in relation to the works submitted.
Once the works have been duly delivered, the organization of this competition will take all security measures within its reach for the best conservation of the works.
8. PRIZES
The awards, sponsored by the companies Nestlé España, SA, FIATC Assegurances and Soler i Sauret, SA, have the following financial awards:
- CITY OF ESPLUGUES AWARD endowed with €4,000
- ANGELINA ALÓS AWARD endowed with €3,000
- PUJOL I BAUSIS AWARD endowed with €2,000
The prizes will be subject to the corresponding tax withholding according to the legislation in force at the time of delivery.
There will also be the PUBLIC AWARD, by popular vote without financial support.
9. EXHIBITION
The selected works will be exhibited at the Can Tinturé Museum, from July 14, 2025 to January 11, 2026, and a catalogue will be published in paper and/or digital version.
Pieces that require great complexity in assembly and/or exhibition will be adapted to the conditions of the resources and spaces available.
10. JURY
The Jury that will make the selection and award the prizes will be appointed by the Esplugues Town Council and will be made up of recognized experts in the world of ceramics and art in general. The composition of the Jury will be published on the notice board of the Town Council’s electronic headquarters and on the website of the Esplugues museums. Its verdict will be final. Even if the works have been previously selected, the Jury reserves the right to exclude them from the exhibition, if necessary.
11. PIECE EVALUATION CRITERIA
The technical complexity, the formal quality of the proposal, the aesthetic dimension, the originality and/or the symbolism of the piece will be assessed.
12. VERDICT AND AWARDS AWARDING ACT
The Esplugues de Llobregat City Council will notify the Jury’s decision at a public event in the first week of October 2025, at the Robert Brillas Cultural Center in Esplugues de Llobregat, and will present the prizes to the awardees, or to whoever legally represents them.
The decision will be made public the following day on the website of the Esplugues Museums.
13. RIGHTS ON THE ADMITTED WORKS AND THE AWARD-WINNING WORKS
The works awarded with financial support will remain the full property of the Esplugues de Llobregat City Council, without prejudice to respect for the copyrights recognized in the corresponding legal provisions.
Participation in this competition implies authorization to the Esplugues de Llobregat City Council, by the author of the accepted works, in relation to:
- The dissemination of the work, with the name, pseudonym, sign or, where applicable, anonymity, as stated at the time of making the corresponding participation request.
- The public communication of the work by any means appropriate for this purpose in view of its nature.
- The reproduction, in any medium or medium, of the image of the accepted works.
This authorization is made free of charge and its scope is limited to the promotional, exhibition, communication and/or advertising activities specific to the competition, in its different editions, or to museum, cultural, cultural heritage or any other type of activities organized or sponsored by the Esplugues de Llobregat City Council and the entities that may form its public sector.
14. RETURN OF NON-PRIZED PIECES
The non-awarded works and the work awarded by the public must be collected from January 12 to 18, 2026 at the same place where the works were presented, during the opening hours of the Can Tinturé Museum.
The withdrawal of the works may be carried out by the authors or by the person who has their express authorization or representation.
Once the period for returning pieces has expired, it will be understood that the author renounces the work and its withdrawal. The works not withdrawn will become municipal property, for all legal purposes, without the author being able to request their return or compensation of any kind.
